So when artists are rendering animations, are they keeping their computer on for the whole duration of the rendering? Like even for couple of days in a row?

It depends on the project's complexity. For example, HydraFXX uses a render farm, likely doing the animation on his PC and then rendering it in the cloud. At Drills3DStudio, they mentioned multitasking: some are rendering, while others work on the environment, etc. So yes, they do need to keep their computers on until the rendering is done

Assuming it's done on one's own hardware, yes. Turning off the pc would stop the render process, so it'd be rather counter intuitive. Rendering tends to be done through .png per frame so that if the render crashes, far less data is lost or corrupted.

Yeah I worded it weirdly, I meant to say that I personally can't imagine having my PC on for days while having my CPU/GPU at 100% the whole time for the rendering, that's all

Yeah also this. Like it might not happen but if it happens the whole job is lost, and I think I read a few times from other creators that lost animations this way, and I have a feeling that you're one of those too!
